Also known as knit stitch.
Number or stitches for pattern ~ Any

Row 1. Knit (this will be the right side of your work)
Row 2. Purl

Stockinette stitch is one of the first stitches a beginner will learn as it is the foundation of most knitting patterns. The most common abbreviation for stockinette stitch in a pattern is (st st). The 'right' side i.e the front of your knitting project will look like lots of little 'V' shapes.

TIP: If you knit lots of rows in stockinette stitch the edges of your piece will begin to curl in.
